Can you take over an existing project from another agency?

Yes — we regularly take over projects from other agencies, freelancers, or internal teams. It is one of the most common requests we receive, and we have a proven process for doing it well.

Our Takeover Process

Step 1 — Code Audit (1–2 weeks)

Before we commit to anything, we conduct a thorough code audit covering:

  • Code quality: Readability, consistency, adherence to best practices.
  • Architecture: Scalability, separation of concerns, and technical debt assessment.
  • Security: Vulnerability scan, authentication/authorisation review, and data handling practices.
  • Test coverage: Existing tests, testing practices, and gaps.
  • Dependencies: Outdated packages, deprecated APIs, and licence compliance.
  • Infrastructure: Hosting setup, deployment pipeline, and monitoring.

Step 2 — Audit Report & Roadmap

We deliver a detailed report with:

  • Current state assessment (what is good, what needs improvement)
  • Critical issues that need immediate attention
  • Technical debt inventory with estimated remediation effort
  • Recommended roadmap: what to fix now vs. what to improve over time
  • Cost estimate for stabilisation and continued development

Step 3 — Stabilisation

Before adding new features, we stabilise the existing codebase — fix critical bugs, patch security vulnerabilities, update dependencies, and improve test coverage. This typically takes 2–4 weeks depending on the project's condition.

Step 4 — Continued Development

Once stable, we continue development using our standard Agile process with 2-week sprints, regular demos, and full transparency.

What We Need from You

  • Access to the source code repository
  • Access to hosting/infrastructure accounts
  • Any documentation the previous team produced
  • List of known issues and feature requests
  • Context on why the previous arrangement ended (helps us avoid the same issues)

Honest Assessment

Sometimes the best path forward is a partial or full rebuild rather than patching a poorly built system. If that is the case, we will tell you honestly. We always recommend the approach that delivers the best long-term value for your investment.
